Positions – Milillo's Lab

The Synthetic Aperture Radar Lab at the University of Houston and the Radar Science group at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Microwaves and Radar Institute, invite applications for graduate research in synthetic aperture radar and large-scale Earth observation. The work sits at the intersection of signal processing, geophysics, computer science and civil engineering.

Topics

Interferometric big-data processing and multi-temporal time-series analysis
SAR applications to surface deformation and change
SAR constellations for natural hazard response
Remote sensing of the cryosphere and landslide dynamics
Machine learning applied to SAR products, including biomass monitoring
Micro-motion and vibration-based structural health monitoring from space

Preferred qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical or Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or a related field
Strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C)
Solid foundation in linear algebra, signal processing and estimation theory
Research experience in remote sensing, SAR, InSAR or machine learning
Strong scientific writing and communication in English

How to apply

Application statements should address programming experience directly, links to code or reports are welcome, and articulate any prior research in synthetic aperture radar or closely related areas.

Admission is competitive. Successful PhD applicants normally receive full tuition support and a stipend for the duration of their study through research and teaching assistantships. Full applications are submitted through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
